1 Timothy 4: 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
I have just come in from some "physical training;" sweeping snow off the sidewalk and clearing the car and truck. Lately, I have been neglecting my "physical training," since the days are short and cold. I know the value of it, especially when I neglect it. My body tells me.
Godliness, on the other hand, has been in my mind a lot, both with the daily posts of Thanksgiving through November and now with 26 days of Random Acts of Kindness for Advent and in memory of the Sandy Hook victims.
Working on my physical needs is so important, but it is dwarfed by the need to remain in awareness of my spiritual needs. I am so busy, and it is easy to neglect both. I need this blog and the Life Journal scriptures as well as my other acts of thanksgiving and kindness to keep my life in balance. Oh, and that whole eternal life thing is not a small consideration either.
Prayer: O, Lord, help me to keep my daily life in balance, neglecting neither my physical nor spiritual needs. Guide my thoughts and actions to the godly track, which brings me closer to You and to the promise of eternity with You.
Amen
