Dec. 12, 2013

Hebrew 7:  27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

Paul is still trying to explain Jesus's place within the Hebrew religion.  Under the Law, priests offered daily sacrifices, but now that is unnecessary.  I remember wondering about that when I first read the OT.  If it was so important, if there were so many rules attached to offering sacrifices, why don't we still do that?

Paul sums it up nicely.  Jesus is like no other priest.  He had no sins to atone for, and yet he took ours when he died on the cross.  The sacrifice is done, once and for all time.

Prayer:  Lord, I am grateful for the sacrifices You and Your son made for me and others.  I am grateful to walk in a life of faith on this Earth, and I look forward to the eternal home earned for me on the cross.
Amen
