Dec. 23, 2013

John 18: 22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded.

The disrespect which Jesus faced is unbelievable.  He has gone so quickly from the Jesus of Palm Sunday to this.  All Jesus said was that he had kept no secrets--that everyone had heard what he said openly.

He had not attacked the high priest or anyone else. He was humble, accepting his fate for what it was--his Father's will.  This reminds me of so many who have suffered in history--the victims of the Holocaust or Apartheid or other civil rights discrimination. How brave they are to stand in the face of such disrespect!

Prayer:  Lord, I honor those who have faced so much for You and for justice for their fellow man.  I pray for them and for those who loved them just to stand by and see the injustice.  I am always in search of Your will for me.  Let me know when it is time for me to stand up against injustice for Your people.
Amen
