Genesis 8: 9 But the dove could find nowhere to perch because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark.
It has all gone bad so quickly. From the Garden of Eden to Noah's day, not much time has elapsed. Humans have been evil, and Noah is the only blameless man who walks with God. So God orders the first mass extinction, and the 40 days and nights of rain commence. After a time, it stops, and now Noah is "testing the waters" to see if it is safe to go out.
I like the image of the dove coming back to Noah. It has nowhere else to go. A hand comes out of the ark, and Noah restores the bird to its safety. The dove has done its job well, and Noah is there to protect it until it can safely go out into the world. It makes me want to save someone too.
Prayer: Lord, guide me to walk with You. Let me hear Your will for my life, and guide me to those places where I can be available to those who are in need of sanctuary.
Amen
