Matthew 13:  46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

Jesus is speaking of the pearl of great value.  He is trying to explain the nature of faith.  He starts this chapter talking about the sowing of the seeds.  Some fall on rocky soil, some are eaten by birds, some are choked by thorns, but some make it.  He explains to the disciples why this happens.  But it was the pearl and the treasure found by the faithful that cause them to sell everything else they have, b/c their faith is the most important thing.  They will use it like the yeast in the large amount of flour to make a difference in the world around them.

I want to believe that I am like the faithful follower who sold my other valuables in favor of the real treasure.  I try to follow my faith, but life intervenes.  Maybe when I retire, when the burdens of my career are not imposed on me 24-7, I can become a better disciple.

Prayer:  Lord, guide me to hear Your voice in the midst of the chaos of my daily life.  Help me to see the things of true value in my life.  I want to focus my existence on the things that really matter,
but I am easily distracted.  I need Your help.
Amen
