Matthew 4: 16 the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”
Jesus quotes Isaiah after hearing about the imprisonment of John the Baptist. This is the beginning of Jesus's ministry. Right after this he begins to gather his disciples. Right before this was the temptation from Satan.
We are so fortunate to live in a time after the light came. It must have been awful for those who tried to follow God in the OT times; they had the Law but lacked the loving grace that Jesus provided. No matter how we try, we always fall short of the glory of God. The light of the world shows us that we are safe in God's arms, no matter how far we have fallen into the shadows.
Prayer: Lord, guide me to be a more loving and caring person. Let Your light shine through me so that all can see Your glory reflected in my actions. I have been in the darkness, I have even embraced it, but I long to live in the light now.
Amen
I did it again. I chose the same verse a year later. The commentary is different however.
