Matthew 12: 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.
Jesus is telling lots of parables in today's chapters. He tells 3 about seeds. There is the mustard seed, the seeds of weeds sown in the wheat field, and the seeds which were scattered in different locations. He also tells about judgment day. He has told of the house divided against itself, and he says that you are either for him or against him.
The verse I chose scares me. I am known to toss out the empty word. I have spoken when I should have been quiet on many occasions. I know why I do it, and I know it's sinful, but I can't seem to stop myself.
Prayer: Lord, give me the power to stop myself from making outrageous remarks. I need to remember to be silent unless my words will lift You and Your people up. Give me the strength to control my tongue.
Amen
