1 Corinthians 12: 28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.
Paul is talking about the gifts of the spirit. He encourages the people of Corinth to seek these gifts. He also tells them that not every person will have every gift. People with one gift should not feel alienated b/c they are lacking another gift. All of the gifts come from the spirit, and all are good.
You have to wonder about Paul's ranking of the gifts. Does he mean that being an apostle is more important than being a healer or a teacher or a prophet? At first it seems not, b/c he tells how all the parts of the body work together. So this is just a random list? Anyway it is good to recognize all the different ways we can serve. I think it is most important THAT we serve.
Prayer: Lord, I want to serve You and Your church. Guide me to the ways that I can use my gifts of the spirit to further Your will on Earth. I am thankful for the gifts that the Spirit has given me. I enjoy being part of a fellowship of believers who share all their gifts.
