John 4: 24 "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
Jesus is talking to the Samaritan woman at the well. She asks him quite bold questions. She isn't anyone in power, but she has more spirituality than most of the Pharisees. Jesus tells her that salvation came from the Jews, but it's moving out into the world, to the kind of followers God seeks.
From The Message: 23-24 “It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.”
Wow. I am so glad that I looked at the alternate translation. That rings so true to me. We have to be ourselves in worship. We don't come to God because of someone else's interpretation of what worship is. We bring our own authentic selves to God, because we are firm in our beliefs. We know His love, and we know how he loves our truest self. We adore Him, because He truly sees us and loves us despite our faults.
Prayer: Lord, help me to spend more time connected with You. I recognize that You are the only one who truly knows me. I am humbled that You love me anyway. I want my life on Earth to be spent walking beside You. I know that I will find my best life by staying closer to You. Thanks for all Your blessings.
Amen
