Acts 12:  10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.

Peter has been put into prison by Herod.  He intends to prosecute him after Passover. He has already killed James.  Then with heavy guarding presence all around, the angel wakes Peter and leads him out of the jail.  Peter doesn't even think it is real; he believes it is a vision.  When he realizes what has happened, he checks in with disbelieving friends and makes a hasty escape.

This is an awesome image, and one I don't recall reading before.  Peter is poked in the side by an angel who wakens him when things look their darkest.  The guards are not aware of the jailbreak; the gate opens by itself, and then the angel is gone.  Picture Peter--standing there thinking, "What just happened?"  The power of God is amazing!

Prayer:  Lord, keep me away from doubt.  I know that Your power is immeasurable.  There is nothing You cannot do.  I must learn to trust in Your plan and follow it.  Just as Peter followed the angel, I should let You guide me away from my darkest moments.
Amen
