Matthew 7:18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
Jesus is preaching with great authority. He uses examples people will understand. He says that trees can be recognized by their fruit. The ones with bad fruit are burned up in the fire.
It's like people. Bad ones may act nice, but their actions--their fruit-- will show us that they are not true followers. And the good ones will bear good fruit. You can tell more from actions than from all their words.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be more discerning. Open my eyes to the truth behind people's actions. Help me to see the good actions of those who appear to be bad but aren't. Guide me to know when a seemingly good person demonstrates evil intent. I know that I could serve You better if I was more aware.
