Matthew 2: 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
The Wise Men are speaking to Herod. They have traveled to find the new king, so they assume he will be found in the palace. Herod is alarmed. He finds out the details of the Messiah's birth and sends them to Bethlehem. But they don't come back to report to Herod as he asked, because they know he intends to harm Jesus.
It's amazing to think of this whole interaction. Foreigners follow a star to find the Messiah, and the king doesn't know one has been born. Yet he is sure that he can eliminate the threat. Didn't he have a clue about the kind of power he was trying to overcome?
Prayer: I would also like to go to worship our Lord and Saviour, just like the Wise Men. I don't see any star to follow, so I will try to find him in Scripture. Guide my quest, Lord. Help me to find and service Your only son.
Amen
