"the people who sat in darkness
have seen a great light,
and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death
light has dawned.”
I am familiar with the Isaiah quote, but I didn't put it in context. Jesus had been tempted, and he found out that John the Baptist had been arrested. So he left and went to Galilee. There he fulfilled this prophecy, that the people of Zebulon and Napthali, an area devastated by the Assyrians, would see the Messiah.
The quote is great. So many of us can feel the joy of those in the darkness who are saved by finding Jesus. The context takes it from the personal to the cultural. I saw the pictures of the Holocaust Remembrance Day yesterday. The chosen people have seen some very dark times. And yet God chose them to raise His son
Prayer: I have been in the darkness, Lord, and I have seen the light my Saviour brought me. I am ready to go into the dawn of a new life with You in eternity. The darkness can't hold me, because I am Your beloved child. Thanks for saving me.
Amen
