1 Samuel 16:  18. One of the young men answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing, a man of valor, a warrior, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence; and the Lord is with him.”

Saul let popularity trump God's word. He was told to completely destroy the Amelekites, but he took their king prisoner, and he let his people keep the best livestock. God turned His back on Saul, and he found David to be the next king. Saul is sick when he realizes the consequences of his sin.  His servants suggest David as a musician to soothe Saul. Saul loves him and keeps him nearby.

I am intrigued by this description of David. God loved David so much. I know that some of what others saw in David was God's love reflected in his personality. David didn't have an easy life, and he sinned, but he was truly God's bae, and he became an ancestor of the Messiah.

Prayer: Lord, I want You with me always. I love You and Your son. I need to work on being a better servant, and the reminder is there in this verse:  be prudent in speech. Guide my thoughts and words to glorify You.
Amen
