Ephesians 4: 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Paul has a lot to say to the Ephesians. He talks about his own mission to the Gentiles, and he speaks of their faith favorably. Then he offers  a prayer that the merge between the Jewish and Gentile followers will be successful. He concludes with advice for their futures.

This is really sound advice. It's so easy to find fault. It's so tempting to feel that others have a better chance than you do, and to try to protect the position you currently occupy against the perceived threat they offer. It's hard, but we should aim to always be a benefit to those who hear us.

Prayer:  Lord, I am so guilty of unwholesome talk. I have allowed pride to guide my words, instead of listening to the Holy Spirit within me. I confess my weakness, and I pledge to seek to lift others up.
Amen
