1 Kings 17: 14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”
Israel has gone through a tough time. The king and many of the people have become Baal worshippers. The prophets of God have been killed. Elijah has been in hiding. Now he's announced that a drought is coming. God sent him to a village, to a widow whose food is running out. Elijah asks her for bread, but she says she only has enough to make a dying meal for herself and her son. This is his reply.
Elijah is not revered enough by today's Christians. He was an awesome follower of the Lord when Israel was falling apart. His faith and his connection to God were so powerful. It seems as though Jews held him in higher regard than we do. I researched it, and I discovered that the Muslims also acknowledge Elijah. He is a central figure in the Mormon religion. He was there at Jesus's transfiguration. I will have to be more aware of Elijah in my prayers.
Prayer: Lord, I want to thank You for Your prophets, people who were misunderstood at best and persecuted at worst for their connection to You. I am sorry that Your people didn't recognize the prophets and acted against Your will. Make me open to Your words, spoken directly to me and also to those prophets in our world today.
Amen
