Genesis 37: 35 All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. “No,” he said, “I will continue to mourn until I join my son in the grave.” So his father wept for him.
Israel (Jacob) is grieving for Joseph. His brothers have sold him into slavery, and they have deceived Israel into thinking he was killed by a wild animal while he was searching for them. Israel had sent him to find them.
The grief hits me hard. I had a meltdown on the drive home, and it was all fresh again. Now I have returned to my daily routine, and it's not so raw. But it's still there. I miss my mother, and I guess I will until I join her in Paradise.
Prayer: Today I pray for those who mourn. It's so hard, Lord, and we need Your comfort. Stand beside us as the pain of the loss makes us depressed. Lift us up with Your promise of eternal life with You.
Amen
