Judges 6:  15 But Gideon replied, “Sir, how can I save Israel? My family is the poorest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least thought of in the entire family!”

Gideon is hiding, doing his work in a way that won't draw attention to himself. The angel tells him that he will save his people. He can't believe that, and he makes the angel prove who he is by doing a miracle. Afterwards, Gideon does become a great warrior for the Lord.

I'm writing this part 24 hours later. I was so drawn to the Gideon story, which I have read right through before. I am still praying to see why it was so compelling this time. Is it the low standing of Gideon at the outset, or is it the trumpets, or is it the way he kept sending guys home until he defeats a much larger army, with trumpets and torches inside clay jars?  Maybe it's the way the Lord confused the enemy into fighting each other.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to rise and become the kind of faithful servant Gideon became. Help me to know Your will for my life in these troubled times.   I want to serve You better.
Amen
