John 21:  Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.

I love this image of Peter jumping into the water to go to Jesus.  I don't quite get the coat part.  The coat would have been better in the boat, where it would be dry, and the weight of it would make it harder to swim, but I guess Peter wasn't thinking rationally.

The rock on which the church is founded jumped in blindly.  The man who denied Christ 3 times can't wait to be near him.  I picture myself arriving in heaven.  I picture myself abandoning caution and running toward my savior!

Prayer:  Jesus, we love you and want to be near you.  We praise you for the sacrifice you made on our behalf.  We look forward to a joyous meeting with you in your Father's house.
Amen
